February Eight

So not using the PC today :(
Updating to Window 7 wasn't sooo easy. Poor Jared was trying all day to fix it. He builds his computers so I know he is fuming. He is sooo easy going and slow to anger so when he does get upset I feel for him very much.
Anyhoo on with my study:

Social Responsibility/Exodus 22:16-31
Doesn't this almost say premarital sex is okay if taken care of after? Exodus 22:16-17 “If a man seduces a virgin who is not engaged to anyone and has sex with her, he must pay the customary bride price and marry her. 17 But if her father refuses to let him marry her, the man must still pay him an amount equal to the bride price of a virgin.
Exodus 21:18 What is a sorceress? I thought it was a female sorcerer(sp?)and why wouldn't he be put to death?? You must not allow a sorceress to live.
Exodus 22:28 Would this mean government??? 28 “You must not dishonor God or curse any of your rulers.

A call for justice/Exodus 23:1-13
I am not sure there is only 10 commandments. When reading the bible this way there seems to be alot more. What is the difference between these and the first 10?

Three annual festivals/Exodus 23:14-19
What is it now considered the second and third celebration??

A promise of the Lord's Presence/Exodus 23: 20-33
When God says he is sending an angel. Wait stop... I do not know what angels are. Even though in my prayers I ask for God to have them watch over me. What is the difference between them and humans? Are they also in Gods image. Are they as the fairy tails and stories describe them as shiny white with wings. What is a cupid or other "angel" like things??What is real and what is not?

Israel Accept the Lords Covenant/Exodus 24:1-18
I want to go back to the "ten" commandments. A number in this translation isnot showing the number ten it is saying "all my commandments".
AlAlso. The bible has things in certain numbered days. Noah and now Moses going up the mountain stayed for 40 days and 40 nights..What is the importance of the number??

-No, God makes it VERY clear that premarital sex is not OK. This just means that once a virgin is "defiled" she would no longer have been wanted by another man so if her virginity is taken, she was to either be married to the one who took it or the bride price was to be paid since she would then never be able to marry.

Exodus 21:18 What is a sorceress?
- Yes, a sorceress is a female sorcerer.
a. A sorceress: The practice of sorcery was almost always associated with "medicinal arts" (the taking of drugs) in the ancient world, and was therefore a connection between drug taking and occultist practices.
b. You shall not permit a sorceress to live: This was considered a severe enough threat that sorcery was considered a capital crime. The link between drugs and the occult was rightly seen as deadly.

Exodus 22:28 Would this mean government???
-there are several verses in the Bible that make it clear we are to respect those in authority that God has place there whether they are Godly or not, we are to respect them.

-MANY people often confuse Moses Law with God's 10 Commandment law, but they are very different.
Moses' law was the temporary, ceremonial law of the Old Testament. It regulated the priesthood, sacrifices, rituals, meat and drink offerings, etc., all of which foreshadowed the cross. This law was added "till the seed should come," and that seed was Christ (Galatians 3:16, 19). The ritual and ceremony of Moses' law pointed forward to Christ's sacrifice. When He died, this law came to an end, but the Ten Commandments (God's law) "stand fast for ever and ever." Psalm 111:7,8.
There are two laws that are made crystal clear in the following verses below. Daniel 9:10 is talking about God's law and verse 11 is talking about Moses' law:
"Neither have we obeyed the voice of the LORD our God, to walk in his laws, which he set before us by his servants the prophets."
"Yea, all Israel have transgressed thy law, even by departing, that they might not obey thy voice; therefore the curse is poured upon us, and the oath that is written in the law of Moses the servant of God, because we have sinned against him." Daniel 9:10,11

Three annual festivals/Exodus 23:14-19

-God commanded that three times a year, all men in Israel had to come together to keep the most important feasts. These included Passover/Unleavened Bread, Firstfruits, and Ingathering (Pentecost). More on these festivals can be found in Leviticus!

-The word “angel” actually comes from the Greek word aggelos, which means “messenger.”But it usually describes the whole range of spirits whom God has created, including both good and evil angels, and special categories such as cherubim, seraphim, and the archangel.

Angels are mentioned at least 108 times in the Old Testament and 165 times in the New Testament (Chafer, Systematic Theology, II, 3). Hence, there is ample information available in Scripture to allow us to build a foundation for our knowledge of angelic beings.

Are they also in Gods image?
-The Scripture speaks about the creation of angels, therefore, it is clear that they have not existed from all eternity (Nehemiah 9:6; Psalm 148:2,5). Colossians 1:16-17 explains:

“For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things have been created by Him and for Him. And He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together.”

The time of their creation is never definitely specified, but it is most probable that it occurred in connection with the creation of the heavens in Genesis 1:1. It may be that God created the angels immediately after He had created the heavens and before He created the earth—for according to Job 38:4-7, “the sons of God shouted for joy” when He laid the foundations of the earth.

Are they as the fairy tails and stories describe them as shiny white with wings. What is a cupid or other "angel" like things?? What is real and what is not?

-numbers in the Bible are VERY important!!!
The number forty has long been universally recognized as an important number, both on account of the frequency of its occurrence, and the uniformity of its association with a period of probation, trial, and chastisement
